For the first time, Carlsbad High received the FIRST PLACE SWEEPSTAKES Award. Out of over 50 Southern California high schools, on Saturday, April 18, 2015, the Carlsbad High School Advanced Theatre students made top ten in nine of ten events. The judges consistently recognized the team of actors and technicians as among the very best in Southern California. Every event placed in the semi-finals at the 95th Annual Drama Teachers Association of Southern California Shakespeare Festival in Los Angeles, and in the final rounds the judges awarded 1st place to “The Play’s The Thing” (Titus Andronicus), 3rd place to Sets/Lights/Graphics, 3rd place to Court Costume, 3rd Place to “All In A Day’s Work” (Macbeth), 4th Place “Villains” (Othello), 5th Place Group Serious (King Lear), Honorable Mention (top 10 out of 98 entries, the only school to have two in the finals) for both Audition Monologues, Honorable Mention to “Women In Disguise” (Twelfth Night). BRAVO!!
